Playa Blanca Lodge
A short distance south of Casa Blanca and Ascension bay is another fly fishing paradise, Playa Blanca. Playa Blanca is the newer sister lodge to Casa Blanca and is perfectly situated to give anglers and non-anglers alike an experience of solitude, adventure, Caribbean comfort and charm, and romance. Whether that romance be with a newlywed partner, or a school of tailing permit, Playa Blanca offers an incredible location for all.
  • Perfect location for anglers and non anglers alike
  • Within minutes of fishing Espiritu Santo Bay
  • Legitimate chance at achieving a Grand Slam
  • Seaside accommodations
Ten minutes of driving and anglers are fishing Espiritu Santo Bay, an unpressured soup of tarpon, snook, permit and bonefish. Ten strides from the main lodge are age old Mayan ruins, or a secluded white sand beach with miles of wonderful snorkeling habitat just beyond that. Combine these activities with hammocks, delicious meals and beautiful accommodations and you know you just landed your dream vacation.  It is the perfect destination for a group of serious anglers, or for a group comprised of non-anglers and anglers as well.

Fishing

The guides at Playa Blanca lay claim to being the first group of guides that have guided, explored and fished the vast fishing habitat of Espiritu Santo Bay. The bay is renowned for its aggressive bonefish, resident tarpon and sheer numbers of permit, making it another ideal location for any angler wishing to pursue their inshore Grand Slam. Espiritu Santo Bay is smaller than Ascension Bay to the north, but due to its secluded location and the smaller size of the lodge, the fishery remains largely unchallenged by any type of light tackle angler.

Accommodations

Playa Blanca has 7 very comfortable rooms that can accommodate 14 guests with spacious bathrooms and colorful Mexican décor. The rooms are thatched roof duplex cabanas all sitting seaside and offering exceptional ocean views. The main lodge is two stories and has a roof top patio, a perfect place for evening cocktails in a warm breeze while taking in the 360 degree views of ocean, tropical jungle, and Mayan Ruins.  In front of the lodge are a series of hammocks and a gorgeous beach to rest and relax on.  Any guest can take the sea kayaks back in to the mangrove lagoons in search of Mayan adventure or one more tarpon for the day.

The cuisine at Play Blanca is an assortment of exceptional Caribbean and Mexican dishes that can include lobster, chicken, fresh fish and beef.  Whatever is on the menu each night is sure to please.

How to get to Playa Blanca Lodge

All guests should book flights to Cancun, Mexico. From there, Casa Blanca will provide an air charter which will fly you directly to the lodge. Guests making their own flight reservations must plan to arrive in Cancun no later than 2 P.M. and schedule their return flight no earlier than I I a.m. in order to make connections with the air charter. Any flights that do not fall within this time period must be approved 30 days in advance by the lodge and may result in an air charter surcharge. The charges are listed in the Casa Blanca rates literature. All airline or private flight itineraries must be supplied to the lodge 30 days in advance of your arrival in Cancun.

You must supply proof of citizenship to obtain a Mexican Tourist Card and to enter the country. The Tourist Card application is issued at the ticket counter by airlines that fly into Mexico. Just fill it out while in flight and present it along with your proof of citizenship to the immigration officials when you arrive in Cancun. For proof of citizenship you can use only a : 1. Valid U.S. passport (check expiration date). The tourist card will be checked at your first point of entry. The immigration official will retain one copy and give you the other, which you must surrender at the airline ticket counter when you check in for your return flight. Keep your copy (Tourist Card) in your possession during your stay in Mexico. No visas or inoculations are required for U.S. citizens. A Mexican departure tax is payable at the airport when leaving Mexico. Some airlines include this as a prepaid part of your ticket. Please check with your travel agent or carrier to verify this.

Should someone elect not to take the air charter, the alternate surface transportation would be a 4 hour drive to Punta Allen. You would then have a 1 hour ride in a wet, open boat.

If you cannot arrive before 2:00 pm, you will need to arrive a day or more earlier and spend the night(s) in Cancun until the day you are to arrive at the lodge. Upon arrival at the airport, you will go through customs and make your way outside the terminal. There, look for the Casa or Playa Blanca representative. He will be holding a sign with a bonefish and the name Casa Blanca on it. If you do not see him right away, DO NOT leave the area. He is probably transporting other lodge guests to the General Aviation Airport, 5 minutes away. Stay in the area just out side the terminal and he will return shortly and find you. Part of your package price is the air charter flight between the lodge and Cancun. This flight is definitely the way to get to the lodge. Otherwise it is a 4 – 5 hour drive to Punta Allen and a long, possibly rough, wet boat ride across the mouth of Ascension Bay to Punta Pajaros where the lodges are located. The boat ride could take between 45 minutes and 1 1/2 hours depending upon the weather. The charter flight is a comfortable 50 minutes and a short 5 minute boat ride.
