Casa Blanca Lodge
Casa Blanca Lodge has long been considered a must visit destination for any and all saltwater fly anglers. Located on the private island of Punta Parajos, surrounded by the famous waters of Ascension Bay, Mexico, the lodge has catered to the likes of Lefty Kreh, Brian O’Keefe, and Bob Clouser to name a few.

Some have gone on to say that there is no better place to catch the elusive Grand Slam of inshore salt water fishing (a permit, bonefish and tarpon in a day) than Ascension Bay. While other destinations may debate this, it isn’t debatable that there is no finer lodge from which to chase the Grand Slam from. With decadent rooms, outstanding Mexican cuisine, professional and experienced guides, and fun filled atmosphere, Casa Blanca sets the bar for flats fishing lodges.
  • Good chance at a Grand Slam
  • Top shelf accommodations
  • Good for both experienced and beginning anglers
  • Popular Margarita Bar
Fishing

From first time saltwater anglers to the most experience, there are opportunities for anglers of any level. You're going to catch some fish.  You may catch the fish.

Large schools of bonefish 1 to 4 pounds cruise the inner flats and can make for great action and serious numbers by the end of each day.

Many experienced anglers return year after year seeking permit, which seem to be everywhere one day, and absent the next. Casa Blanca boasts some of the most experienced permit guides in the Caribbean. You have a great shot at catching your first permit.

Tarpon are always in the area.

Depending on the time of the year, large migratory tarpon will appear on the flats and around mangrove islands. At other times, their knowledgeable guides can always seem to find smaller resident tarpon and snook tucked away amongst the labyrinth of channels and lagoons. There is always the very real chance at a Grand Slam.

Accommodations

Casa Blanca has 11 very nice seaside rooms that are decorated in classic Mexican-Island décor. They are large and roomy with comfortable beds and air conditioning. Each room has a private bath and separate rod racks for stowing fly rods and tackle for the evenings.

The dining area is connected to an open air palapa where pre-dinner cocktails and appetizers are served as anglers relate the day’s adventures. The meals at Casa Blanca are professionally prepared and cover a variety of local favorites and can include fresh fish, lobster, ceviche, and chicken. There is full bar that serves Casa Blanca’s infamous margaritas that sometimes leads to revelry and lots of fun in the warm evenings of the Caribbean.   You'll always remember your dining experince at Casa.

After dinner,  for additional fun, medium sized tarpon can be fished to from the pier beneath the lights, though these fish have seen a fair number of flies and can prove to be challenging, it’s always nice to make a few more casts before calling it an evening.

How to get to Casa Blanca Lodge

All guests should book flights to Cancun, Mexico. From there, Casa Blanca will provide an air charter which will fly you directly to the lodge. Guests making their own flight reservations must plan to arrive in Cancun no later than 2 P.M. and schedule their return flight no earlier than I I a.m. in order to make connections with the air charter. Any flights that do not fall within this time period must be approved 30 days in advance by the lodge and may result in an air charter surcharge. The charges are listed in the Casa Blanca rates literature. All airline or private flight itineraries must be supplied to the lodge 30 days in advance of your arrival in Cancun.

You must supply proof of citizenship to obtain a Mexican Tourist Card and to enter the country. The Tourist Card application is issued at the ticket counter by airlines that fly into Mexico. Just fill it out while in flight and present it along with your proof of citizenship to the immigration officials when you arrive in Cancun. For proof of citizenship you can use only a : 1. Valid U.S. passport (check expiration date). The tourist card will be checked at your first point of entry. The immigration official will retain one copy and give you the other, which you must surrender at the airline ticket counter when you check in for your return flight. Keep your copy (Tourist Card) in your possession during your stay in Mexico. No visas or inoculations are required for U.S. citizens. A Mexican departure tax is payable at the airport when leaving Mexico. Some airlines include this as a prepaid part of your ticket. Please check with your travel agent or carrier to verify this.

Should someone elect not to take the air charter, the alternate surface transportation would be a 4 hour drive to Punta Allen. You would then have a 1 hour ride in a wet, open boat.

If you cannot arrive before 2:00 pm, you will need to arrive a day or more earlier and spend the night(s) in Cancun until the day you are to arrive at the lodge. Upon arrival at the airport, you will go through customs and make your way outside the terminal. There, look for the Casa or Playa Blanca representative. He will be holding a sign with a bonefish and the name Casa Blanca on it. If you do not see him right away, DO NOT leave the area. He is probably transporting other lodge guests to the General Aviation Airport, 5 minutes away. Stay in the area just out side the terminal and he will return shortly and find you. Part of your package price is the air charter flight between the lodge and Cancun. This flight is definitely the way to get to the lodge. Otherwise it is a 4 – 5 hour drive to Punta Allen and a long, possibly rough, wet boat ride across the mouth of Ascension Bay to Punta Pajaros where the lodges are located. The boat ride could take between 45 minutes and 1 1/2 hours depending upon the weather. The charter flight is a comfortable 50 minutes and a short 5 minute boat ride.
